Gunderson Setting Up Visits

Jonathan Gunderson wasn't very well known prior to this summer, but he now had multiple schools on him from the WCC, SEC and Mountain West..

Jonathan Gunderson, 6-5 SR SG Rancho Santa Margarita (Calif.) Santa Margarita, drew the attention of numerous coaches last month with his high skill level and great feel for the game. Gunderson is like a coach on the floor, as he rarely makes a bad decision. He plays point guard for his high school team and may play some backup point when he gets to college.

We spoke with Gunderson today and asked him about the schools recruiting him.

"I've got an official visit with Santa Clara set up for September 9th," said Gunderson. "Then they'll come in for a home visit the following Tuesday. I've been talking a lot with Portland and I'll probably visit there. Also, New Mexico called today and I'll most likely take a visit there."

Gunderson went on to say, "I've been talking to Vanderbilt, and they're interested, but Coach Stallings didn't get to see me play. He was going to watch at the Best of Summer, but that got cut short. So they'll come out to see me at my high school in September. I've also been talking with St. Mary's, UC Santa Barbara and some Ivy League schools."

We asked Gunderson what he is looking for in a school.

"A good basketball program that plays at a high level and obviously a good education. I want to take my visits so I can see how I fit in with the coaches and the players. I want to get it done in November."
