Marcus Dove, 6-6 JR SF Long Beach (Calif.) Milliken, is a naturally gifted player who plays well in the open court. If he can improve his outside shot, and play with more consistent intensity, he has a chance to play at a high level.
We spoke with Dove yesterday and he told us really likes UConn, Missouri, Stanford and Oklahoma St. at this point. When we asked if he had a leader, Marcus said, "UConn. I like their playing style, they have a good coach and I've liked them ever since I was a kid." Dove also mentioned North Carolina as a school that he particularly admired growing up.
We noted that most of his favorites are out of the area and Dove said, "I don't really care about staying close to home -- I'd kind of like to get away and see a different part of the country." Dove went on to say, "The coaching staff and the academics will be important."
We asked about early playing time and Dove said, "I wouldn't expect to start, but some time would be nice."
Dove doesn't plan on making an early decision. "I want to take five trips and probably wait until spring," Dove said. "I want to play my senior year and see what happens."
Dove told us that he doesn't anticipate any problems qualifying. He took the SAT recently, but hasn't yet received his results.
