Wayne Chism to SEC

One of Memphis' top players is off the board now that Wayne Chism decided to pull the trigger on Monday afternoon.

Wayne Chism decided to remain close to home and help Bruce Pearl rebuild the Tennessee program.

The 6-foot-8 ½, 235-pound Bolivar Central (Tenn.) senior power forward chose the Vols over Arkansas and Ole Miss. Chism ranked No. 62 in the recent Scout.com Top 100.

``It was the fans and the academics," Chism said. "That's what it came down to. I really like the new staff and I wanted to hear about the academics."

Chism, who played on a loaded Memphis Pump ‘N Run team along with Thaddeus Young, high school teammate Willie Kemp, Brandon Powell and Pierre Niles, has played just one season at Bolivar Central after transferring in from Jackson South Side.

``We've only had him one year, but his potential is unreal," Bolivar Central coach Rick Rudesill said. "He's shown me something different every day."

``I think he just liked the school," added Rudesill. "I think basketball's important to him, but I think it was the school and the coaches. That was a huge factor. The old guys made inroads and Bruce Pearl and his staff kept the momentum going. He realized these guys are good guys and he feels good about his decision."
