Stefan Welsh SEC-Bound

It appeared as though Stefan Welsh was headed to Xavier after a visit to the Ohio school back in the spring. However, the Hargrave-bound senior guard waited it out - and is headed to the SEC.

Stefan Welsh didn't even need to see Fayetteville to make his decision and become a Razorback.

Welsh, a 6-2 1/2, 175-pound senior guard who will attend Hargrave Military Academy (Va.), committed to Arkansas on Tuesday night.

``Me and Coach (Ronny) Thompson developed a strong relationship, and me and Coach (Stan) Heath did as well," Welsh said. ``I felt like it was the place for me and there's no need for me to wait any longer. I didn't need to see the campus, because I really like the staff and the program."

``I didn't want anyone to take my spot," he added. "Why not just go ahead and take it." Welsh is a potent scorer who didn't get a chance to really showcase his game this past summer on a loaded Boo Williams team, but he averaged 18.8 points at Woodside High (Va.) as a junior.

``My mom told me how important relationships are," Welsh said. "And I felt like I had a great relationship with the staff."

Welsh also considered Virginia, Tennessee, Providence and Rutgers.

``Arkansas is losing three guards this year, but that's not why I chose them," Welsh said. "They're an up and coming program and I feel like I can add a lot to their program."
