Budinger Picks Hoops In Tucson

When it came time to make a decision, Chase Budinger favored Andre Iguodala over Karch Kiraly. On Wednesday, as expected, he gave the Arizona Wildcats the nod.

Chase Budinger, Scout.com's No. 11 prospect overall in the Class of 2006, committed to Arizona during an afternoon press conference. The 6-foot-8 La Costa Canyon product also considered UCLA and Southern Cal. He is widely considered to be one of the elite volleyball players in the United States.

"I think the main reason (for picking Arizona) is Lute," Budinger told Scout.com. "I'll learn a lot from him and their program is always among the best."

Budinger, who did consult some professional volleyball players about his decision, said that he could always go back to the beach but thought at this time he was ready for the hardwood.

"It's tough," Budinger said. "I knew there would be a time that I had to make a career decision and at this point I want to see how far basketball takes me."

Budinger, a virtual lock to make the McDonald's All-American Game, ranks as the No. 4 small forward in the country on a very distinguished list. His impact at Arizona is expected to be significant right away. Budinger has his own thoughts on what a successful first year would be like.

"One (measure) would be if I got playing time and we won a national championship," Budinger said. "That would be a successful year for me."

Lute Olson would likely agree!
