Five In Contention For Meeks Visits

Jodie Meeks, the No. 80 prospect in the nation per, says he's at five schools and plans on taking as many visits. A gut feeling, he says, will drive his decision.

With five schools remaining on his list, Roswell (Ga.) Norcross senior Jodie Meeks will enter the final phase of his recruitment in the near future. All that's left for the 6-foot-4 wing is to take his official visits and make a decision.

Alabama, Florida, Oklahoma State, Illinois and Notre Dame are his finalists.

"I haven't really scheduled any exact dates, we've talked about it but we haven't scheduled an exact date."

Meeks contends that he would like to take official visits to each program and says distance isn't a factor. "It's not really that important," Meeks said. "The mileage is not really a factor. I have to see what fits me the best.

"I have to have a good relationship with the coaches."

As for who is pursuing him the hardest, Meeks sees it this way. "I would say all of them (are) but Alabama has been in there since the beginning. Florida is showing a whole lot of interest."

Behind the scenes, the word on the streets says that Alabama and Florida will be in there strong. Bama's Mark Gottfried missed just one of Meeks' games from the spring period through the summer.

The Georgia Hurricanes guard isn't worried much about the decision. He says he'll know when he takes the visits which school suits him best. "It'll feel right when I get there."

Meeks is a talented guard who wants the basketball in his hands. A young man with a strong basketball IQ, he simply makes plays.
