Two Emerge On Mack's List

Two schools appear to have emerged with Statesville Christian senior wing Doneal Mack. The 6-foot-5 shooting guard shares his thoughts on his recruitment.

Doneal Mack knows who is chasing him hard and he's responding to the chase. "I know that over the summer Marquette offered," Mack said. "So did Auburn and Maryland and basically my top two is Florida and Virginia Tech."

Known as a long range bombardier, Mack sees himself fitting in well at either Gainesville or Blacksburg. "I think my game fits both of their styles of play."

Statesville Christian begins classes on August 30th. Mack says his official visit slate will begin soon after, though he doesn't have any dates for the trips.

Billy Donovan and Seth Greenberg have made their pitches. Mack is beginning to understand where each is coming from.

"I like (Florida's) style of play the best and I also like Billy Donovan," Mack said. "We've got a good relationship; I talk to him every week. They're a shooting team."

The Hokies have made a mark as well. "I like (Coach) Greenberg. They were one of the first ones on me and I'm real loyal to them. Me and Greenberg have a good relationship, actually the whole coaching staff."

Mack sees different styles by the two head coaches. "Donovan stays in touch and talks," Mack says. "Greenberg says that when you make the decision, you have to be selfish on your part because it's for the rest of your life."

Provided another school doesn't crack his top pair, this one smells like an ACC vs. SEC tilt. Will conference affiliation play a part in his decision? How important will it be?

"It kind of is but when I think of it, it's not. Florida is always at the top of the SEC and Virginia Tech is always competing in the SEC. Conference doesn't matter."
