Ebi Says He's Staying In Texas ... For H.S.

HAMPTON, Va. – Ndi Ebi isn't going anywhere. He says so himself.

In spite of rumors throughout the latter part of the high school season that indicated he was considering a transfer to Mouth of Wilson (VA) Oak Hill Academy – rumors, by the way, that were very real – the 6-10 SF/PF said Friday night that he's definitely going to stay at Houston (TX) Westbury Christian for his senior year.

That out of the way, Ebi arrived here at the Boo Williams Invitational with coach Darryl Sheppard's Houston Hoops, ready to kick off a spring and summer in which he's hoping to solidify his reputation as one of the truly elite overall talents in the Class of 2003.

"I'm trying to win and work on my defense," he said after the Hoops' 83-79 win over Wisconsin Playground at Hampton University's Holland Hall. "I'm just working on getting better."

Ebi's already pretty darn good – and he strutted some of his stuff on the opening night of Boo. The lanky prospect was his usual active self on the glass on both ends, he scored most of his 23 points short jumpers and put backs, and he blocked probably half a dozen shots.

"I pretty much have the freedom to do whatever I want," he said when asked about his role with this year's Hoops. "I feel like we're loaded. Our guards can't be stopped. So I want to focus on my defense. That's my main key."

Even more so than formulating any school list at this point. He'll narrow down the long list of suitors to somewhere around five or seven near the end of this month.

"I don't want to count any school out yet," he explained. "I want to wait until the end of April. I'll narrow it down to seven schools then. I don't want to make the top five or seven official yet because I don't want other schools to back off."
