Caracter To Louisville, Plus Video!

The Louisville Cardinals dipped into the well of big time prospects and once again pulled out a gem. Derrick Caracter,'s No. 13 prospect, picked the Cards on Thursday. In addition to the story, we've got new video, courtesy, on the big fella!

The Louisville Cardinals added a potential McDonald's All-American on Thursday afternoon. Derrick Caracter, a 6-foot-9, 290 pound power forward gave Rick Pitino and the Cardinals their third commitment of the year.

"Louisville is the school for me," Caracter told "Pitino can coach ball and I think he'll keep pushing me and make me a well rounded person."

Caracter, who averaged 15 points and 11 boards as a junior, picked the Cardinals over Memphis, his other finalist. Citing a strong relationship with Cardinals assistant Steve Masiello, Caracter began thinking heavy about the Cardinals following ABCD Camp.

With Caracter, guard Edgar Sosa (No. 57) and shooting guard Jerry Smith (No. 68), Louisville is poised to have yet another outstanding recruiting class.

With top recruiting classes come expectations and Caracter is looking forward to his first season in town. "Hopefully we'll do well in the Big East and maybe catch a Big East title. I just want to go in as freshman and play really well."

Caracter's a big time player. He's battled conditioning issues for three seasons but with those issues also comes immense offensive talent. A gifted passer with an extraordinary touch from the perimeter for a young man his size, he's rated the No. 13 prospect in America.
