Cotton Can't Say No To Spartans

The Spartans usually don't waste a lot of time getting commitments. For the past few seasons, Tom Izzo's bunch has struck early and things are no different with the Class of 2003.

Cotton Picks Sparks

All weekend long at the Boo Williams event, Detroit DePorres guard Brandon Cotton alluded to what was going to happen. He didn't mask his emotions when he talked about Michigan State. On Monday, he acted on his instincts.

"It was real easy," Cotton said of his selection and commitment to the Spartans. "At the end of my 10th grade year I just starting talking to Coach Izzo and all the other coaches and they were just on me ever since."

Cotton was all-state last season and put up nearly 30 points a game. He was super at the 2001 Nike All-American Camp and tough to guard at the Boo Williams last weekend.

He'll give the Spartans a little kick in the pants when it comes to the pace of a game. "I think I bring more an uptempo style," Cotton said. "I think my ability to penetrate and create for others, I'll bring that."

Penn State was the runner-up and Cotton found it tough to tell the Nittany Lions no. "They told me that they could build a team around me. That was kind of hard to turn down."

Hard to turn down? Maybe. But, Brandon Cotton did tell PSU no thanks, and the Spartans are sure glad he did.
