Clemson Nabs Florida Big Man

The Clemson Tigers were working on Labor Day that much we know. Oliver Purnell's crew managed to nab a verbal commitment from one of the top power forwards in Florida.

A.J. Tyler, a 6-foot-9 big man out of Palm Harbor (Fla.) University High picked the Tigers after officially visiting this weekend. Tyler had received recruiting interest from West Virginia, Florida, Old Dominion and Davidson. He averaged 24 points and 11 boards as a junior.

This past summer, Tyler played most of the month of July on a bad foot and didn't even know it.

"I developed a stress fracture in the beginning of July," Tyler said. "X-rays showed nothing but a bone bruise. The first day back from Las Vegas I got an MRI and it showed a stress fracture. I've had a boot on."

While the boot is expected to come off in the near future, Tyler's admiration for the Clemson Tigers won't be wearing off anytime soon. He thoroughly enjoyed his official visit and was present for the team's huge win over Texas A&M Thursday night.

"I've liked them and I had great communication with coaches there," Tyler said. "They stuck with me through my foot injury and that was great. I love the campus and I'm excited about the program. That's the place for me to become the best player that I can be."
