Jenkins Decides To Play In Big Ten

Ohio State added transfers Tony Stockman and JJ Sullinger last week. This week, it was off to the juco ranks for a power forward.

Jenkins Picks Buckeyes

"When he got off the plane from Columbus Sunday night, he was ready to be a Buckeye," Itawamba JC coach Marty Cooper said of his 6-6, 240 pound forward.

Shun Jenkins, a native of Albany, Ga., visited and committed to Jim O'Brien over the weekend. He averaged 14 points and 10 rebounds as a sophomore last year.

His recruitment is a tale of increasing interest. First, Southern Illinois, Indiana State and Illinois State hit him hard. Then, Billy Hahn and LaSalle entered the picture. As the season progressed, he was being recruited at the high-major level by Wisconsin, Tennessee and Mississippi. Finally, UConn entered the picture.

"(UConn) tried to get a visit at the end," Cooper said. "Coach Calhoun was working it pretty hard this last week."

However, in the end, Jenkins stayed true to Ohio State. "I think he had high interest when they started recruiting him and it developed from there," Cooper said.

"I think he'll go at the power forward slot and give his competition all he wants. He's so darn athletic and can really run the floor. He goes after the boards. But, his biggest thing is his work ethic."
