"I went up there to the school and talked to Coach Purnell," Dendy said. "He said some good things and I figured that's where I need to be. I'm close to home and it's the ACC."
The commitment is significant for Clemson as Dendy ranks as the top player in South Carolina's Class of 2007 and the No. 37 prospect overall in the nation. His pledge to the Tigers, especially at this point in the recruiting calendar, is viewed as one of the highest-rated commitments thus far in the junior class and should be one of the key Clemson commitments of the Purnell Era.
So, how did the Tigers get it done? Well, since the spring assistants and Purnell himself have been working him. At one spring tournament, we caught Tiger staffers watching Dendy at a remote gym with no one else in sight. Clearly they had pursued this one with great urgency.
"Basically, Clemson showed a lot of interest," Dendy's AAU coach Frank Ballenger said. "By it being so close to home he wanted to get it out of the way and it takes some pressure off him and now he can go out and qualify."
"I love the fans and everything," Dendy said. "I like the excitement that's there. I'm motivated to go."
