On Tuesday afternoon, the Tucker High standout picked the 49ers after hearing from Georgia, South Carolina, N.C. State and Tennessee.
"They've been on me for about a year now," Tatum said. "They were telling me that even if I had a bad summer they wanted me. The scholarship was still on the table."
Well, the senior who averaged 20.7 points last season didn't have a bad summer, he had a tremendous summer and in the end, his recruitment expanded. Still, he respected the 49ers commitment to him and went with the team that never wavered in its loyalty.
"When I went up there unofficially, right away I wanted to commit," Tatum said. "My dad and I thought about our options. But with the relationship I have with Coach Hill and the opportunities I have there … I like everything about it."
The 49ers are getting a very athletic wing who plays the game they way they like – in attack mode.
"I need to play hard all the time and lead by example."
