Jackson To Play In C-USA

Robbie Jackson, a 7-footer once committed to Villanova, has found a home in Conference USA. On Thursday, Jackson made his college choice.

Robbie Jackson, a 7-foot native of Aberdeen, Md., who is prepping at Pickens (S.C.) Prince Avenue Prep, committed to the Marshall Thundering Herd this week.

Jackson, a standout from Jeff Bowden's Baltimore Select program, attended the adidas Super Star Camp last summer and had St. Bonaventure and Towson on his short list.

"He enjoyed the coaching staff when he sat down up there on the visit," Bowden said. "He liked campus and his teammates were real cool. He was supposed to go to St. Bonaventure and Towson but he said that he wanted to go to Marshall."

Jackson committed to Villanova as a senior but the marriage between the big man and the Wildcats failed to materialize. In reality, the commitment to the Herd gives him a better chance of having a productive career as Conference USA is the right level for the 280 pounder.

"With Ron Jirsa and what he's talking about, they want him to come in but they don't have expectations of him having to get 18 and 10," Bowden said. "He feels like it's a good level for him. He didn't want to go too high and sit for four years.

"He needs to work on his conditioning and his strength, that's the main things he needs to work on."
