Jermaine Beal to SEC

Jermaine Beal was looking for a few factors in a school - and the DeSoto High (Texas) guard found all of them this weekend.

Jermaine Beal wanted to get out of Texas – and he also wanted a combination of academics and a chance to play.

All three factors worked in favor of Vanderbilt and the 6-foot-3, 185-pound senior combo guard at DeSoto High (Texas) committed to the Commodores this weekend on an official visit.

``It's a great atmosphere, the campus is nice and everything is within walking distance," Beal said. "My teammates were cool and so was everyone on the coaching staff. Plus, I know I'm going to get playing time as a freshman."

Beal, who is a good student with a 3.3 GPA, averaged 17 points last season and switched AAU teams from Team Texas to DFW Elite midway through the summer.

He had previously taken an official visit to Oklahoma earlier in the month. Beal will likely see the majority of his time at the point for the Commodores.

``I like the direction that the program at Vanderbilt is headed," Beal said. "They are going in the right direction and are a program on the rise."
