Brooks Headed To Naval Academy

The Naval Academy invaded the state of North Carolina and nabbed a wing. Scott Brooks, a 6-foot-5 burgeoning player out of Wakefield High is all hands on deck for Billy Lange's program.

After averaging 12 points and 3 rebounds as a junior at Raleigh (N.C.) Wakefield, Scott Brooks had a bust-out summer and in turn received numerous scholarship offers. Western Carolina and the Naval Academy came through with offers and recently, Brooks accepted one of them.

Three weeks ago, Brooks traveled to Annapolis to see the campus of the Naval Academy and shortly thereafter, committed to the program.

"I guess it was the team atmosphere," Brooks said. "They had a lot of chemistry. It's a building program and I know I can help it out."

This past summer, Brooks ran with Garner Roads AAU. He fielded interest from UNC-Wilmington, UNC-Greensboro, Winthrop and Asheville.

A very good athlete with plenty of bounce, Brooks is shooting it well from the perimeter and only lacks the strength needed to come in and give Navy that strong wing athlete Lange's charges crave.

Brooks will get that strength training his first year at the academy. "I think I'm going to N.A.P.P.S.," Brooks said. "It's Navy Prep School."
