Eversley Decides He's Ram Tough

James Eversley didn't waste any time. During a weekend CAA visit, the perimeter player out of Hargrave Military Academy, put an end to his recruitment.

After looking around, James Eversley simply decided that he had seen enough. The 6-foot-6 small forward/point guard, committed to the VCU Rams shortly upon completion of his official weekend visit. He had been considering the Rams and Old Dominion Monarchs.

"He grew up around the league and he knew what the league was all about," Hargrave Coach Kevin Keatts said of his standout wing. "With VCU and the way they play definitely made a big impression on him. He'll have a lot of freedom to probably play the three, two and 1."

A lot of guys talk about playing multiple positions but few guys can actually swing between the small forward and point guard ala a Scottie Pippen type role in the Colonial.

"The way they play, they could use me at the point and against smaller teams I can be in the post," Eversley said.

The Virginian has sort of been the surprise of early season camp at Hargrave. After a non-descript season on the Hargrave High School team last year, Eversley has been impressive in the college workouts.

"He definitely has had the most improvement so far in the contact period," Keatts said. "A lot of people say he's the most intriguing guy we have on our roster. A lot of high-majors were asking me about him. You add 20 pounds to the kid and he's got a whole different level of recruitment."
