Now Tim Floyd is reaching the young kids.
Malik Story, a 6-foot-4 1/2 shooting sophomore shooting guard from Lakewood Artesia (Calif.), committed to Floyd and the Trojans on Sunday.
``He's really close with Daniel Hackett," Southern Cal All-Stars boss Pat Barrett said. "They roomed together all summer. Again, I think the buzz we have out here is about Tim Floyd. He's a former NBA coach, they have a new arena and it's a new start so to speak. This is pretty exciting for these young kids out here."
Story has a good body, can really shoot the ball from long range and averaged 12.7 points per game as a freshman last season.
``He's young kid, but he's very talented," Barrett said. "He didn't really get a chance to show a lot or play a lot because he was playing behind Chase Budinger, but he had his moments when people said he's going to be special."
Floyd has been one of the most active head coaches on the road recently and it's paid off. The staff, which includes Bob Cantu, Phil Johnson, Rudy Hackett, Gib Arnold and DeMarlo Slocum, has now added a trio of '06 kids (Kevin Galloway, Taj Gibson and Kasey Cunningham) along with Hackett in '07 and Story in 2008.
