The former Summit High (N.J.) star, who is spending this season at Blair Academy (N.J.), committed to West Virginia on Monday night shortly after returning from an official visit to Morgantown, West Va.
``I just loved the program," Smith said. "They went very far last year and they are really good people. I felt at home. I felt comfortable."
Smith is a 6-foot-7 ½, 195-pound forward who also considered Virginia.
``I think he's one of the most underrated guys available this year," Playaz coach Jimmy Salmon said. "He's an extremely hard worker and he'll be great in Coach Beilein's system."
Smith averaged 20 points and 11 rebounds last season at Summit and is already qualified academically.
``West Virginia has been talking to me since my sophomore year and I felt really good about everything," Smith added. "Coach Beilein is a great coach and he's going to make me much better. He's a guy I want to be around."
