Blair Opts For In-State School

Gabe Blair, a 6-foot-7 forward out of Kings Mountain (N.C.) Hope Christian Academy, is headed to Conference USA.

Plenty of kids this summer off the Charlotte Royals traveling team raised their stock and Gabe Blair is one of them. The 6-foot-7 combo forward, a native of North Carolina, moved to Hope Christian this fall and recently committed to East Carolina after visiting Colorado State and receiving interest from Virginia, Tennessee, Tulsa and St. Bonaventure.

"I went down there and I liked the coaching staff and the players," Blair said. "I'll be a good fit on that team. It's a good school and I'm a big fan of Ricky Stokes and Mack McCarthy and the staff."

The N.C. native wasn't sold on staying in-state at first but slowly began to realize he wished to stay close to his native Charlotte.

"At first, I didn't think it was going to be a big deal but I kind of like it down here and it's my home."

The other thing that excited Blair about ECU was the league. He likes C-USA and is jacked up about playing against programs like Memphis.

"I think I'll be a factor in Conference USA," Blair said. "I think I can be a big time player against guys like Darius Washington. I see myself having a big role over there. I'd like to be freshman of the year."

ECU wouldn't mind either.
