Syracuse Double Dips With Jones

It's not often a college program has nights like the one Syracuse did on Wednesday. Jim Boeheim and the Orangemen popped commitments from Top 40 players in both the Class of 2006 and 2007.

The evening began with somewhat of a surprise telephone call from Antonio Jardine to Jim Boeheim. The 6-foot-2, highly regarded guard out of Philadelphia committed. Jardine is ranked the No. 31 player in his class.

If Jardine's commitment wasn't enough cause to celebrate, things progressed later in the evening. Mike Jones,'s No. 34 prospect out of Lower Richland High in Hopkins, S.C., phoned in his commitment hours later.

"When I went up there on my visit I felt right at home and I got along with the players and the staff really good," Jones said. "I related to Coach Murphy really good."

Jones, who runs with the South Carolina Ravens on the traveling team circuit, selected the Orangemen over in-state South Carolina.

The 6-foot-7, athletic forward has an inside-outside game that should mesh well with the Syracuse style of play. From Jones' perspective, a freshman year in which he gets time on the court will suit him just fine.

"I'd go in there get some time and do what I have to do and learn from the seniors and the coaching staff," Jones said.
