Jasper Headed to SEC

Derrick Jasper still had one visit remaining, but he opted to get his recruitment over with and the 6-foot-4 1/2 senior from California is headed to SEC country.

Derrick Jasper won't wait until his final visit before making his decision.

The 6-foot-4 ½, 195-pound Paso Robles (Calif.) senior combo guard committed to Kentucky, according to several sources close to the situation.

Jasper also considered Memphis, Illinois and Washington.

Jasper, who averaged 21 points, seven rebounds and seven assists this past season, was impressive as a pass-first floor leader this past summer while playing on a loaded EBO team that also featured the Lopez twins, Brook and Robin and Quincy Pondexter.

``He's the kind of guy whose going to do whatever it takes to help his team win," Paso Robles coach Scott Larson said. "If he needs to score, he will. If he needs to distribute the ball, he'll do that, too."

Jasper has good size, is smart and has a nice first step. If there's one criticism of his game, it's that he didn't look for his own shot enough this past spring and summer. He'll also need to improve the consistency of his outside shot before he gets to the SEC.
