Omar Thomas, a 6-foot-5 combo forward, committed to Western Carolina this week.
"My sister went to North Carolina and I'm going to Western," Thomas said. "We all seem to get away."
Well, Thomas might have gotten away from his homestate but new WCU Coach Larry Hunter used an old connection to make sure Thomas didn't stray from the Catamounts.
"Larry Hunter has been around for a while," Thomas said. "He coached my high school coach when he was in college. He called my coach asking for good players and he told him a few names. When I went out to ABCD Camp he was looking out for me. He liked what he saw at ABCD and they saw me in Vegas."
From that point on, Hunter was hot on Thomas' trail.
"I took the visit and I loved it down there. Coach Hunter has enthusiasm for the game. He genuinely loves the game of basketball."
