An Early Look At Luke Babbitt

Luke Babbitt, an elite forward prospect from 2008, figures to have top programs from around the country recruiting him...

Luke Babbitt, 6-7 SO PF/SF Reno (Nev.) Galena, is a very advanced young prospect with the ability to play inside or on the perimeter. A lefty with a strong low-post game, Babbitt also has a very nice stroke to the stripe. He's got terrific hands and excellent footwork, with a better feel for the game than most high school seniors.

Babbitt's got a good frame, with long arms, and he's already pretty strong. He should fill out well and we're currently projecting him as a power forward. He's got the offensive game to play the three at the next level, but he might be better suited to defending power forwards.

We spoke with Babbitt at the Super 100 in Northern California this past weekend and asked him about the schools that have been out to see him at his high school.

"UCLA, UNLV, Indiana, USC, Washington, Cal, Nevada, Arizona and Michigan have all been out," said Babbitt. "Wake Forest is supposed to be coming in the next couple weeks. But I'm wide open right now."

Babbitt said three schools have offered already. "USC, UNLV and Nevada have offered."

We asked Babbitt about the factors he'll consider when making his choice.

"Location isn't important," said Babbitt. "I'll go anywhere. The staff will be important, academics obviously, and someplace where I feel I can play. Most coaches see me playing inside and out."

Babbitt has been to three schools on unofficial visits.

"I went to the UCLA elite camp and I've been to UNLV and Nevada unofficially," said Babbitt. "I'm supposed to go to Washington for an unofficial visit when they play USC on the 21st."

Babbitt told us he doesn't have a timeframe for choosing a school. "It's still really early," said Babbitt. "I don't have a timeframe for making my decision."

Babbitt told us he has a 3.8 GPA.
