USC Signs Brooks, Smiley

The Trojans get a signed National Letter of Intent from exactly the player they need, talented JC point guard Brandon Brooks, while also signing JC wing Roy Smiley...

Brandon Brooks, 6-0 PG, signed a National Letter of Intent to play for USC next year.

Brooks, originally from Oregon, played one year at Indian Hills College in Ottumwa, Iowa, before sitting out last season. He was considered one of the best point guards on the west coast during his senior year in high school -- with great quickness and ballhandling skills.

There has been a question of whether Brooks would qualify academically, and it's still uncertain. He's been taking classes at Compton College.

Also signing with USC was Roy Smiley, 6-4 SG/SF, Southeastern Iowa College. Smiley committed to USC when he was in high school in Washington, two years ago. He averaged 14 points a game for Southeastern.
