Winston To Sign With Tide

The Alabama Crimson Tide will finally cap off their 2002 recruiting season on Wednesday. In the wake of the recent release of Kennedy Winston from his letter of intent to California, Mark Gottfried's bunch has a new player.

Winston To The Tide

Two-time player of the year in the state of Alabama, Kennedy Winston, is staying put. He'll play for the Crimson Tide next season, provided the NLI Steering Committee sees fit to grant him immediate eligibility.

Winston, citing family health issues, asked for and was granted a release from his fall letter of intent with California. Our sources confirm that he will sign with Alabama on April 17. The signature ends a lengthy tussle between the Tide and Golden Bears over one of the elite small forward prospects in the nation.

Now, Winston must wait and see what the Steering Committee says. Should they agree with him, they could grant him immediate eligibility so that he can play next season. Should they not rule in his favor, it would mean that he would have to sitout two seasons in Tuscaloosa. Our sources believe the committee will grant him eligibility next season.
