Mohamed Abukar, 6-9 JR PF Poway (Calif.) Rancho Bernardo, has a chance to be among the elite post prospects in the country, but his recruitment may not last long. According to Ollie Goulston, his AAU coach, Abukar will choose between two schools -- Kansas and Georgia.
Goulston told us yesterday that Abukar's list had also included Syracuse, Arizona, UCLA and Kentucky, but those schools have all been eliminated from consideration. "Arizona was interested, but somewhat lukewarm, and UCLA said they already had guys like Mohamed in their program," Goulston said. "Kentucky is looking for more of a five man."
Kansas assistant Steve Robinson and Georgia head coach Jim Harrick are expected to be on the Rancho Bernardo campus today, to speak with Abukar and watch him work out. Georgia has already offered a scholarship, according to Goulston.
"Mohamed would like to take a trip to both schools in May," Goulston said. "And he'll probably make a decision prior to the summer camps."
Abukar has previously told us that he'll have no trouble qualifying.
