Smith Has Visits In The Works

Having been deemed by the NCAA free and clear of any previous collegiate attachments, its open season for Tyler Smith. The Hargrave Military wing has quite a list of interested suitors.

Post graduate small forward Tyler Smith has quickly strung together a strong list of contenders, according to Hargrave Coach Kevin Keatts. Among the interested parties are Miami, Virginia, Iowa, Nebraska, Arkansas, Memphis, Pittsburgh and Charlotte.

"I think the opportunity to play and finding somewhere that's going to help him continue to develop is important to him," Keatts said. "He just needs a good opportunity to play. We've had some good guys come down and offer."

Smith's first official visit could be of the ACC variety in the middle of October.

"I'm in the process of setting up Miami for Midnight Madness and probably for Virginia the following weekend," Keatts said. "We've looked at those two and are in the process of setting them up. He likes everybody on that list. Some a little more than others, but he and his dad have to sit down and decide who else he wants to visit."

Smith, a serious athletic specimen, has always been viewed as a slasher who needed to round out his perimeter game. Pre-season reports out of Hargrave have him working hard on his outside shot and the results are becoming apparent.

"He's super athletic and he's starting to knock down the open jump shot. He's making it more and more everyday and getting a little more consistent with it. We work on it every day with a lot of form shooting. He's a gym rat. He works on his game."
