Jones Finds A Home In Big East

Franklin Jones, a center out of New York by way of Mount Zion in Durham, is headed to the Big East. Jones made his pick late Thursday evening.

Franklin Jones, a native of Niagara Falls, N.Y., will play his collegiate basketball in the Big East. The 6-foot-11, 285 pounder who attends Durham (N.C.) Mount Zion, committed to play for the South Florida Bulls this week.

"He liked the fact that he's got a relationship with (assistant coach) Julius Allen," GC Ballers head coach Jeff Bishop said. "Julius is a big man and he wants to learn from a big man, that was one of the key things."

Offers from UTEP and Xavier were temping and Syracuse and Providence showed interest but the center that averaged 8 points on a strong Mount Zion team last season, committed to the school that chased him vigorously throughout the summer.

"Julius was following us all summer and watched Franklin," Bishop said. "He got to see him a lot. He hasn't visited there yet but he's comfortable with the commitment."

Jones attended the 2005 Reebok ABCD Camp. This young man is a presence inside who can guard the basket and he'll be one of the biggest bodies in the post playing in the conference.
