Sherron Collins Makes Choice

Sherron Collins needed only one visit before making his decision. The Crane High (Ill.) floor leader and No. 9 player in the Class of 2006 got it done after Midnight Madness.

Bill Self beat out his replacement at Illinois when the Kansas head man got a commitment from Chicago Crane (Ill.) standout point guard Sherron Collins on Sunday night.

``I was ready to get it done right away, but Coach (Longstreet) told me not to get caught up in the moment," Collins told the Chicago Sun-Times. "He told me if I still feel this way {the next day} after I sleep on it, then do what I think is best for me. I slept on it and I still feel the same way."

The 5-foot-10 ½, 190-pound floor leader took a visit to Kansas this past weekend for Midnight Madness and was slated to visit Illinois this coming weekend.

``I saw more smiles on his face than I've seen in four years," Crane coach Anthony Longstreet said. "Interacting with the Kansas crowd, taking pictures, and signing autographs, it was a great experience for Sherron. It's his decision, and I feel he is really comfortable with it."

Collins averaged 25 points, 10 assists and eight boards per game as a junior and is's No. 9 ranked player and second-ranked point guard, behind Tywon Lawson (North Carolina), in the senior class.
