Mack Thinking Early November Decision

Doneal Mack, Statesville Christian's outstanding shooting guard, returned home from a weekend SEC visit. Hear what Mack had to say about the Gators and the other programs that are trailing him.

Doneal Mack has a time frame in mind for his decision. The end is drawing near for the 6-foot-5 shooting guard and scoring machine out of Statesville Christian near Charlotte, N.C.

"I'd probably say that I'll make the big announcement before the Oak Hill game Nov. 5," Mack told Tuesday night.

At this stage, Florida and Virginia Tech are the key players in his recruitment. Boston College has been mentioned as of late but nothing solid on the Eagles front and Marquette is out.

"I was thinking about taking a trip up (to Boston College) but I'm not sure," Mack said. "Marquette is out. They took Lazar Hayward."

Simple math tells us that Florida and Virginia Tech are left standing in the Mack equation.

Last weekend, the Gators had Mack in for a visit. It went well, I liked it," he said. "Some colleges have one coach coaching. At Florida, every coach chips in with what they got to say," Mack said of the style he observed. "They break down every little thing."

While Mack praised Florida for its top of the line facility and gave the Gators high marks after the visit, he also had good things to say about what's going on at Virginia Tech.

"The coaching staff and the players are more of a family," Mack said. "They don't have certain groups. Everybody hangs around each. The go to the coach's house and I like that family environment."

Mack said differentiating between the two would be hard. "To tell you the truth, they're more alike. They're both college towns with good coaches and I like their style of play."
