PSU Lands Junior Big Man

Penn State added a junior big man. John Kelly, a standout at Wayne (NJ) DePaul Catholic, committed to the Nittany Lions on Friday.

PSU Gets Verbal

Penn State kicked off its 2003 effort with a big man. 6-9 John Kelly of Wayne (NJ) DePaul Catholic is a Nittany Lion ... or will be.

"He gave them a verbal commitment," coach Bart Fazio said. "He visited there unofficially. They really wanted him bad and he was impressed with coach Dunn and he figured why not."

Pittsburgh, LaSalle, Providence and Holy Cross came in to see him at school. The big man averaged 16 points, 14 rebounds and 2.5 blocks last season. "He's 16 years old and wears size 19 shoes," Fazio said. "His development is ahead of him."

Kelly plays with the NJ Road Runners and will attend the adidas ABCD Camp. He sat out most of his sophomore season after transferring from West Milford High.
