``I was thinking about staying close to home too much," Hill said. "When I took the distance out of the equation, there was no question where I wanted to go."
``The opportunity to be at the highest level," added Hill. "To play in the Final Four and be in the NCAA Tournament every year. I couldn't pass that up."
Hill was a virtual unknown midway through the summer, but he burst onto the scene in July and Longhorns assistant Ken McDonald started pursuing him.
``The coaches - Coach Mac (McDonald) and Coach (Rick) Barnes - did a great job. I went to visit and loved it. The city of Austin and the players are great."
Hill, who took an official visit to Texas last month, averaged 19 points and 10.5 boards per game as a junior.
Hill has had his trademark afro since freshman year and said he will shave it for spring break because of a $10 wager, but he'll make certain to grow it back full before he steps on campus in Austin.
``It's a bold move," Hill joked. "But it's been working for me."
Hill joins Kevin Durant and Dexter Pittman - as well as guards Harrison Smith and Justin Mason. The Longhorns are still in the mix for point guard D.J. Augustin and big men Bryan Davis and Jeremy Mayfield.
