Source: Ramar Smith No Longer A Husky

There's been a development in the recruitment of Ramar Smith and has details.

Ramar Smith committed to the Connecticut Huskies in August. As of Wednesday, he's no longer part of the UConn basketball recruiting class. learned, according to sources close to the UConn basketball office, that Smith's scholarship was withdrawn this week. The recent development comes a few months after Smith (reportedly in need of an academic boost) transferred from Detroit King to South Kent (Conn.) South Kent School.

After a little more than a week at South Kent, Smith left the school and returned home to Detroit. Sources told that this move prompted the Huskies to re-evaluate his situation.

A strong scoring guard, Smith had considered Miami, Arkansas and Michigan State at the time of his commitment to Connecticut. This development means that of's Top 30 prospects, only Smith, Lance Thomas and Darrell Arthur remain.

As a junior, Smith averaged 23 points and 9 rebounds for Detroit King.
