Matthews Is One To Watch In 2003

Wesley Matthews, a 6-2 shooting guard from Elmhurst (NY) Monsignor McClancy, played well for the Long Island Panthers at the Charlie Weber. Matthews, who is just starting the recruiting process, already has a couple schools in mind.

Matthews Likes Hofstra, Albany

Last season as a junior at Monsignor McClancy, shooting guard Wesley Matthews averaged 18 points a game. At the recent Charlie Weber event, he displayed diverse offensive talent, sound defensive principles and an IQ for the game.

Matthews says that Albany has already offered him a scholarship. He lists his current leaders as Hofstra and Albany. New Mexico, Rider and Quinnipiac have been in touch.

"I haven't made any official visits yet as of right now," Matthews said. He further adds that he would like to visit Hofstra, Albany and Oregon State. The Dutchmen, Rider and New Mexico will see him this spring.

"The most important decision will be how well I fit in and how far away from my house (the school is)," Matthews said.

Interested parties can catch him in action with the Long Island Panthers.
