Wynne, a big man who played at Redan and Marietta High in Georgia before heading to North Atlanta Prep for a season, picked the Pirates after listening to a bevy of schools including Central Florida, South Florida, Georgia State and Georgia Southern.
"Coach Stokes talked with Tim Freeman, the athletic director of North Atlanta Prep and Coach Stokes always kept tabs on him," North Atlanta Prep skipper John Wilkins said. "He came down in town looking at another player and really just loved Chad."
The 255 pounder was starting to attract a fair share of attention. "It was a ton of schools that were after him," Wilkins said. "He was pretty highly recruited here. A lot of people liked him."
Wilkins sees his star as a kid who has the potential to keep getting better. In East Carolina, he seems to have found the place to make it happen.
"One thing I've always told my guys is that you have to find somewhere that can develop you and give you a chance to play."
Speaking of getting a chance to play, Hillary Haley of Fort Washington (Md.) Friendly should get plenty of chances for early minutes at ECU.
The 6-foot-6 ½ wing is a proven scorer who can get himself a bucket when needed. He too committed to the Pirates this week and will be expected to come in and give Stokes a scoring punch as a freshman.
