Coup For Cal

The Cal basketball program has taken a couple hits recently, but they pulled off a major coup when they received an early commitment this week from Dominic McGuire, a 6-6 small forward from San Diego...

The Cal Bears have had more than their share of bad news in the last year or so, but they received a major piece of good news this week when Dominic McGuire, 6-6 JR SF San Diego (Calif.) Lincoln, gave Ben Braun his commitment, according to sources.

McGuire, who will likely be ranked as the #1 small forward prospect in the west when we update our rankings, is a very athletic and versatile wing. His outside shot is serviceable, but the rest of his game is stellar. A solid defender (good shot blocker), he also rebounds very well, handles it in transition, makes good decision, passes very well and finishes strong at the rim. If the outside shot improves a little between now and July, we expect McGuire to come out of the summer as a top 25-30 nationally ranked player.

McGuire is the second west coast junior to commit early to Cal, joining Mater Dei JR SG Wesley Washington.
