Augustin made his decision after visiting LSU and Texas in consecutive weekends.
"When I came back I pretty much sat down and thought to myself," Augustin said. "I went over everything I've been through in the last two weeks and when I put it together, that's when I knew Texas was the school."
D.J. Augustin, Scout.com's No. 40 prospect overall and 7th ranked point guard, opted for the Longhorns over LSU. Augustin transferred into Houston Hightower High after being displaced from Brother Martin in New Orleans when Hurricane Katrina rolled through.
Augustin's family has relocated to Houston and things are beginning to get back to normal. However, the top-ranked player from the state of Louisiana says returning to New Orleans isn't in his cards anytime soon.
"There's nothing to go back to. There's nothing to see. There's nobody there. It's dead. Years from now I might go back to visit."
Augustin, an all-star at the adidas Super Star Camp, has been a household name in point guard circles since his freshman year at Brother Martin.
Augustin's AAU coach Dannton Jackson is quick to sing the praises of this elite guard.
"He is the best point guard in the country. Period. He's so unselfish and selfless. He's going to make everyone around him better. It's not about him. He values teammates more than him."
Augustin will team up with the prize recruit in the Longhorns class, second ranked overall stud Kevin Durant. He and Augustin will be flanked by center Dexter Pittman, big man Matt Hill and guards Harrison Smith and Justin Mason.
Augustin is likely to sign on Nov. 10, the second day of the signing period, as its his 18th birthday.
