No. 7 Bayless Stays Home

A long week of recruiting news culminated with the verbal commitment by one of's elite junior prospects. The No. 7 talent in 2007 is spoken for.

The Arizona Wildcats now have a pair of commitments from the Class of 2007. Joining Mater Dei center Alex Jacobson is Phoenix (Ariz.) St. Mary's standout Jerryd Bayless.

The 6-foot-3 Bayless, ranked No. 7 in the junior class by, picked Arizona over Texas at a press conference on Friday afternoon.

There aren't a slew of big time prospects from the state of Arizona so when one comes around the Wildcats seemingly are intent on keeping him home and that happened with Bayless. He joined Richard Jefferson, Mike Bibby and Channing Frye as prominent in-state prospects that stayed home to run with the Wildcats.

"Distance didn't matter but Arizona was the best place for me," Bayless said at his press conference. "I wanted to play for a Hall of Fame coach like Lute Olson."

The addition of Bayless could prove to be a very significant one. A big time scoring guard blessed with tremendous wing athleticism, he's an exciting prospect who will be expected to make a large contribution upon his matriculation to campus.
