Ard Picks Murray State

The Murray State Racers plucked a strong recruit from their area last week. Marshall County star Daniel Ard inked with Mick Cronin's charges during the early period.

Daniel Ard, the pride of Marshall County High School in Draffenville, Ky., is headed to Murray State.

The 6-foot-6 two-sport star signed his papers last week. "Mick Cronin signed one of our players (last week)," Marshall County athletic director Steve Woodward said. "He's going to play basketball for Murray State."

For some time there was a question as to which sport Ard would choose since he's also a top flight football recruit. On the hardwood, he led Marshall County with 22 points a game as a junior.

Cronin was fired up about the signee who makes his home about 20 minutes from the Racers campus.

"Racer basketball has not had a recruit like Daniel Ard for many years," Cronin said. "I love Daniel's toughness. He has the size and skill, and I believe he has not played his best basketball because he's been a two-sport star."
