2007 Introduction: Scott Thompson

The state of Idaho doesn't turn out a lot of high major players, but junior big man Scott Thompson is an excellent young prospect...

Scott Thompson, 6-10 JR C Meridian (Ida.) Mountain View, is a promising young post prospect with good hands and feet. He moves well for his size and has range to 15-17 feet. We were very impressed with him at our last viewing and believe he'll almost certainly end up at the high major level.

We spoke with Thompson yesterday and asked about the schools he's heard from to date.

"Washington, Utah, Oregon State, Arizona, Boise State and North Carolina," said Thompson.

When asked if any school stand out for him at this time, Thompson said, "probably Washington and Utah."

We questioned Thompson about the issues he'll consider when choosing a school.

"The coaching will be big," said Thompson. "Also, they players they have and academics. The location isn't a big deal."

We asked if early playing time would be an issue.

"Not really," said Thompson. "Not during my freshman year – maybe I'd even redshirt. But I would like to play some when I get to my sophomore/junior year."

Thompson told us he hasn't given much thought to the timing of his decision. "But I guess if everything was right, I'd do it early," said Thompson.

Thompson hasn't had a chance to take many unofficial visits yet. "I was down in Utah for a camp and I stopped by there for a few minutes to talk, but that was about it," said Thompson.

A good student, Thompson told us he has a 3.4 GPA.
