The strong, versatile 6-foot-3, 200-pound North Central (Ind.) junior guard, ranked 10th in the Class of 2007, committed to Bruce Weber and the Illini over the weekend.
``He's glad to get the process behind him," said Gordon's father, Eric. "He saw the two guards (Deron Williams and Luther Head) going into the NBA Draft so high and over the past few months, he went to the campus a few times with a few of his friends."
``They all loved it," he added. "They chanted his name at the Penn State football game and his friends told him he was crazy if he didn't go there. He really enjoyed the crowd at the game. Illinois didn't hold out any stops making sure he felt at home."
``He has a great relationship with all the coaches on the staff – Jay Price, Tracy Webster and Bruce Weber," he continued. "He really feels at home."
The distance didn't hurt, either. It's 108 miles door-to-door, according to the elder Gordon.
``It's close, but not too close," he said.
``Duke came on strong and we have the utmost respect for those guys and Coach K (Krzyzewski)," Gordon said.
Gordon is one of the top scorers in the entire class and can play either backcourt spot. He averaged 26.5 points per game last season and is expected to make an official announcement at a news conference sometime later this week.
