Senior Sleeper in San Diego

Benas Veikalas, a 6-3 senior shooting guard from Horizon in San Diego, has a chance to be a good player at the low major level. A few schools in the East are on him, but some West Coast D1 schools might want to take a look...

Benas Veikalas, 6-3 SG San Diego (Calif.) Horizon, came to the U.S. from Lithuania in November. As a result, he hasn't received a lot of exposure and he isn't getting a lot of recruiting attention. Layafette and Furman have expressed interest, but they're the only D1 schools recruiting him at this point. Low majors in the west looking for a shooting guard might want to take a look.

Veikalas is a solid 6-3, with a good frame and decent athleticism. As is typical of many Europeans, Veikalas is very skilled with the ball and has a really good feel for the game. We've seen him a couple times in the San Diego Super 60 League and we've been impressed with how hard he competes, even in a league where most guys aren't playing much defense.

We were told that Veikalas' grades from Lithuania would translate to about a 3.0-3.5 in the U.S. In his first semester at Horizon, Veikalas had a 3.7 GPA. He took the SAT for the first time last weekend and is awaiting his test results.
