Gant Emerging Out West

Darnell Gant had a visitor the other night when he nearly posted a triple-double. The Crenshaw High (Calif.) is favoring one program, but isn't ready to decide just yet.

Darnell Gant and his Crenshaw High teammates were impressive in a rout against Hamilton last week – and the 6-foot-8 junior nearly put up a triple-double with UCLA head coach Ben Howland in attendance.

Gant scored 22 points, grabbed a dozen rebounds and blocked eight shots in the win.

Howland and the Bruins have put a scholarship offer on the table and while Gant likes what UCLA has to offer, he's not quite ready to make a decision.

``I just want to take my time," Gant said. "But I really like UCLA. They have a good team, their players really get along and they have a great coaching staff. I like the academics also."

Gant also mentioned Arizona, UConn, Georgetown, Oregon and USC as other schools he's considering.

At one point, Gant had mentioned that he'd like to go east for college and although he favors UCLA at this point, Gant said that if one of the top schools back east stepped up their recruitment, it would be difficult to pass up.

``If North Carolina, Duke or Syracuse offered, that would be tough," Gant said.
