Petway Coming Into His Own

Griffin (GA) High power forward Brent Petway is in the process of turning in a fine spring AAU season. Some minor tendonitis in his knee has done little to slow him down.

Petway Starting To Formulate List

Brent Petway, a power forward from Griffin (GA) High, is having a fine spring AAU season with the Georgia Stars. He's working on a few aspects of his game and improvement is noticeable.

"My shot blocking ability and my defense have really improved a lot," Petway said. "During the school year in practice, when we practice live, that lets me work on my defense. I always guard someone smaller so it lets me work on my foot speed." While Petway is excited about his defense, from an outsider's perspective, his offense is really coming along. His jumper to medium range looks accurate.

Petway played well at the Kingwood Classic last month, despite being hobbled by an injury. "I just had a little bit of tendonitis but it's pretty much gone now," Petway said. "I've been running track."

Meanwhile, on the recruiting front, Petway says at least two "big" schools want him to come for visits. Michigan and Georgetown are pushing hard for official visits. Petway says he has to call the coaches at the schools to try and set up trips.

In addition to Georgetown and Michigan, he also likes Georgia Tech and Stanford. "Really, those are schools I'm looking at right now because they are good schools and have good programs," Petway said. The 6-8 Petway said that he wishes to major in sports medicine.
