Trading Blue Skies For Blue Grass

Bobby Perry visited Kentucky last weekend. On Monday, after returning home from his official visit, he reached a decision.

Wildcats Land Perry

Bobby Perry, a 6-7 small forward from Durham (NC) Hillside, committed to Kentucky on Monday. He's the Wildcats first recruit in the Class of 2003.

"I called coach when I got back," Perry said. "He told me to call and make sure I got in OK."

Perry had been considering Wake Forest, Kentucky and Stanford – all three had offered – as he's an excellent student. "The atmosphere over there was great and so is Coach Smith. The staff is also great. The campus is nice and I loved the facilities."

Perry was named the player of the year in his conference last season. He visited Kentucky for the Wildcats game against Louisville this year. The Wildcats have been on him hard all year long and offered at the same time Wake Forest did.

"Wake and Kentucky saw me play in Danville (Va.)," Perry said. "Coach Prosser called me the next day and put an offer on the table. Coach Smith offered that night."

It's not often a player from North Carolina leaves the ACC area but in this case it made sense. "I was thinking that I've been here my whole life. I think it'll be good to live in another part of the country."

There's just one thing left for Perry to do before he heads to Lexington. "I won't be happy with anything less than a state title."
