Appleton Takes Himself Off The Board

Tyrone Appleton finally consummated a relationship with one of the schools that had been chasing him for a long time. On Thursday, Appleton committed to playing college basketball in the ACC.

Seth Greenberg and the Virginia Tech Hokies are piecing together a very solid recruiting class. Their future point guard, Nigel Munson, was named MVP of the Beach Ball Classic last week and now the Hokies are keeping the momentum rolling with a new commitment.

On Thursday, combo guard Tyrone Appleton picked the Hokies after considering Washington and a host of other programs. Appleton is in his prep year at Cincinnati's Harmony Prep and ran with the SYF Players last summer.

"Virginia Tech recruited me the hardest," Appleton said. "I like the coaches and I went up on a visit and it was cool. I love their style of play and it's the ACC."

Appleton brings a diverse game to Hokieland. Capable of playing both guard positions and doing so with scoring ability and athleticism, he'll be a valuable piece to the puzzle for Virginia Tech.

"They got guards coming back but I think I can step in and be a big fit for them. I like to get up and down the floor."

Appleton joins Munson, power forward Jeff Allen and forward Lewis Witcher.
