2007's Allen Ends Speculation

Chris Allen's big junior season just drew a little more attention. The 6-foot-3 shooting guard became the second commitment of a big time powerhouse out of the Big Ten.

Things are happening fast up in East Lansing. Last month, the Michigan State Spartans snapped up Kalin Lucas, a Top 25 prospect from the junior class. Just this week, Tom Izzo's bunch secured a commitment from a burgeoning shooting guard out of Georgia.

Chris Allen, a quickly rising junior guard out of Meadowcreek near Atlanta, pledged to the Spartans after a visit from Izzo this week. "It's hard (to leave the South) but the Big Ten is one of the best conferences there is," Allen told Scout.com. "The ACC is good and the SEC too but they're sleeping on the Big Ten."

Allen, who attended the Reebok ABCD Camp, is averaging 26 points and 8 rebounds a game as a junior. He'll be a riser in our next round of rankings that will come out before the spring AAU season kicks in.

The junior said he's ready to do whatever is asked of him by Izzo. "I just want to play hard. Whatever coach asks me to do; I'm going to do it for him. That's the respect that I have for Coach Izzo and Michigan State."

Allen's infatuation with the Spartans is sort of a family thing. The initial interest in Izzo's program stems from family Allen has in the area. After learning that tidbit, the Spartans aggressively pursued and eventually successfully landed him out of prime ACC/SEC country.

With Lucas and Allen on board, expect Michigan State to attempt to add Durrell Summers to the mix. Summers, who was quoted in The Lansing State Journal as being close to committing to the Spartans, will be on Michigan State's campus later this week, according to a source close to the program.

Should Summers, a Top 15 recruit, fall in line, expect the Spartans to continue their pursuit of Josh Southern and also go home-run hitting for another big fella.
