While he's had a reputation for possibly being high maintenance, and also sometimes plays selfishly on the court, Lawrence nonetheless has some great, natural talent. He's listed among the top 60 or so prospects nationally in his class by many recruiting and scouting services.
He certainly is talented enough to warrant some strong recruiting attention, and more than what he's getting now, this late in his recruiting game, especially since he claims he has good enough academics to qualify. Lawrence said he has a 2.8 core GPA and scored a qualifying 18 on the ACT.
Lawrence took an official visit to Fresno State a few weeks ago, but he says that Fresno State hasn't offered him and he was unsure of whether they would. "They said something like they might not have a scholarship," Lawrence said.
He also said that he's still getting some attention from St. John's and Florida State, and that he'd like to trip to both of those schools, but he's not sure if that's going to happen. "I'm not sure what's happening with them. I don't know if I'll take a trip or not."
Other than that, Lawrence said there isn't too much recruiting action going on. "I can't explain it," Lawrence said himself. "There are some schools that stopped calling. Then there are still some of the same schools talking to me. Some say they don't know if they have a scholarship – like they might have given it to someone else or someone is returning that they thought was leaving."
Lawrence said that he's still wide open and would consider any schools that were interested. "I really don't know what I'm going to do. I'll see who else might recruit me."
